They help to maintain balance in the food chain, seagrass beds and coral reefs.  Each year 100 million sharks die in fishing nets or on longlines. Worse still, 73 million are killed annually from the barbaric act of finning (we’d rather not explain).  In the last 50 years, 50% of the mangrove forests that act as a nursery for many shark species, have disappeared.  These apex predators may not be cute and cuddly, but the ocean needs them. We need them.
